Billionaires vs. Activists

Have you ever heard about a novel mixing ecological issues and suspense ? Birnam Wood is a thriller written by Eleanor Catton in which the author explores the dilemma undergone by an association of environmental activists when a billionaire offers them a site for their activities. That’s why we could qualify it as an eco-thriller. Characters will have to choose between their value and money. However they don’t know that behind this offer, a terrible project is hidden. In Birnam Wood, Eleanor Catton mixes many current subjects in order to create an interesting and gripping story with a fascinating plot. The book raises some of the major issues that the world is facing today. Through an innovative narrative, Catton denounces the lack of perspective and the recklessness of billionaires in the face of climate change. Birnam Wood is the scene of a clash of extremes, between the ultra-rich and radical left-wing activists. We all know that the crisis is real, however there is still room for improvement, and that is what Catton is trying to tell us. This novel will make you feel outraged about the injustice undergone by those activists and the inequalities between businessmen, who are often dishonest, and activists, who are just trying to save the planet. Moreover, it may make you have a deep reflection on today’s society. It is a really captivating and thought-provoking novel that tells exactly what is happening to our world, and you must be ready to read it.
